California Sunsets

On Sunday Mark and I took a walk down to the beach to see the sunset. It's hot here during the day, but it sure cools off at night. The beach was packed with people, I guess we weren't the only ones wanting to see the sunset. We met a nice man that we talked to for a while then he offered to take our picture. I love this first one because he probably took about 2 minutes to take the picture then he cut off Mark's head. haha I guess he thought Mark was too tall, and his forehead didn't need to be in the picture. Mark said he liked that he liked it, "that way you can't see my reseeding hairline." haha, he cracks me up.

People were swimming...burrr, too cold for me!

Disneyland!!!

On Saturday Mark and I met some friends at Disneyland. They are friends Mark met when he was working in Seattle last year. Mark gave Robert a call Thursday why we were driving to see how he was doing, since he hadn't talked to him in while. Robert asked Mark what he was up to and Mark told him we were driving to California for his next job. Robert said hey I'll be there tomorrow. So, in short, we just happen to be in the same place at the same time and decided to meet up. Good thing Mark called him! It was my first time meeting Robert and his wife Pam, they were wonderful people, very nice. We all had a great time riding rides, watching the firework show and walking through the shops.

Mark and I in front of Cinderella's castle.

Outside the park...we got there about 4:30pm and stayed until 11:00pm. I was pooped! I don't know how people stay there all day!

Mickey!

Train Ride...it was so much fun. I was laughing the whole time, Mark looked a little scared.

Robert & Pam...you can tell we all look a little tired.

Fireworks!

I don't know if you can see it but that green blob on the left hand side is Tinkerbell flying through the air.

Utah, Arizona, Nevada & California

Here is the rest of our journey. Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California. It was so much fun driving or in my case, riding through these states. We got to our final destination on Friday mid-morning in Carlsbad California. Mark is working at Camp Pendelton. The weather is great out here. It hasn't been super warm but you could wear pants, shorts, long-sleeve or short-sleeve shirts. It's been about 70-75 degrees.

Rest Stop in Colorado

Mark and I stopped at a rest stop along the way and boy, did we stop at a good one. It was absolutely beautiful! I took some pictures while walking to find the bathroom...the best rest stop I have ever been to!

A train passing by...

I love this picture above...probably my favorite one of the bunch.

Colorado Views

Colorado is one of the most beautiful states I have ever driven through. The mountains were absolutely amazing. I'm so glad I wasn't driving! When we were in the mountains the temperature was 37 degrees! burrrr! Then as soon as we drove out of them the temperature jumped up to 82 degrees! That's more like it! I can't quite describe the views we saw. People should instead of taking their vacations out of this country should take them right here in good old USA. The States really do have some amazing sights that everyone should see sometime in their life!

Driving through Colorado

Here's part 2 on our trip to California. We had a lot of fun traveling together. Although I think Mark could have done without me singing all the way. :)

Traveling through the states-Part 1 South Dakota and Nebraska

On Wednesday October 16th, Mark and I headed out of Britton, South Dakota on our way to California. We left about 1:30pm when Mark finished work. We drove through South Dakota and Nebraska. We stopped in North Platte, Nebraska for the on Wednesday night. As we were traveling, I snapped pictures right and left. I think I took about 200 pictures! I was a little picture happy. I have one word to sum up South Dakota and Nebraska.....COWS! I have never seen so many cows in all my life. I have fallen in love with them. They are so cute....brown ones, black ones, white ones, brown and white ones, black and ones, brown and black ones...I didn't know there were so many different colors of cows. Most of the cows were on Marks side so I only got a couple pictures of the cows. I wish I could of gotten a picture of this...there were a bunch of baby cows (calves) running in a field chasing birds. That doesn't sound very exciting, but let me tell you....it was!

Leaving Britton...

We saw a lot of tractors...

Lucas Being Silly

Yesterday I checked my mom's blog and saw that she had some new pictures of Lucas up. She informed me that he had a photo shoot the other day. haha, ok mom. I think someone has too much time on their hands but I am grateful for her taking the pictures. I really miss my little dog Lucas, but I know he's having a blast at Grandma's and Grandpa's. Probably too much fun. She took a couple pictures and I had to put them on my blog as well, so everyone can see what a goofy dog I have (if you didn't already know that.)

This is supposed to be Lucas listening but I think he's just pretending.

Lucas sleeping with his blanket...and no they didn't put this around his face, he does this by himself.

HAHAHA....he does this all the time, he'll get under the blanket and just have his feet hanging out, don't ask me why.

Traveling to South Dakota

On Monday October 6th Mark and I left New Glarus, WI heading to Britton, South Dakota. The trip took about 9 hours and we encountered about every type of weather there is. When we left it was 53 degrees and cloudy. In the Dells it started to get sunny. The temperature got up to 74 degrees. It almost felt like summer again! Then it started to rain real hard. We could barely see the road (glad I wasn't driving :)...) Then it became sunny while raining then cloudy while raining. We ended the drive with the sun setting, no rain and 64 degrees. It was absolutely beautiful driving into the Northeast side of South Dakota. The sun was setting and you could see outlines of the cows standing on the hills. I couldn't get my camera out in time to take a picture of the cows...I know you're thinking "Whitney I've seen cows before" but there where hundreds of all different kinds of cows, and the sun was hitting them just right. It was a really cool site to see. I did manage to get a couple pictures of the sunset. The pictures don't do it justice but it will give you an idea. Mark said he would pull over so I could take some pictures but I think you can see them pretty well through the window.

The people here in South Dakota are some of the nicest people I have ever met. I feel like I walked back into 1950. I know I wasn't alive then, but the manners people had back then are what people in this town have today. Yesterday morning I got up and went over to the hospital to workout,(people staying at the hotel can workout for free!) and I walked in and a man named Bronco greeted me and made me feel welcomed. After working out I walked into town to get some lunch for later and as I would walk by a man, any man, he would take his hat off and bow his head and say "howdy mam." I went to walk into the grocery store and before i got up to the door a man spoke up behind me and said "Just a second mam" then he opened the door for me. I took a couple walks yesterday and while walking I never once opened a door, I was greeted over 20 times, and smiled at over 30 times. Even people driving in their cars would wave. I have never been treated so well in all my life by strangers. It is really refreshing to know there are still people out there who are just plan nice. I think people who live in cities need to at least once a year come to a small town and see what manners really are.

Here we are driving into Britton, South Dakota.

I don't know if you can see it, but there was a rainbow...it was pretty!

Badger Game!

On Saturday Mark and I went down to the Badger game and met up with some friends for tailgating. We had a great time and like all Badger games, it got a little crazy down there. I have been to quite a few Wisconsin games but night games are completely different. There were so many people, you couldn't even move. Even though the Badger's lost we still had a great time!

Lucas in TC!

So Lucas and I headed up to Traverse City MI to visit family. He is having a blast there. I don't think he'll ever want to come home. Grandma and Grandpa spoil him rotten! He even has his own bed there!

Lucas being cute!

Dad's 58th birthday! wow, someone's getting old!
